Pro-Road Global supplies penetration-grade bitumen in Trinidad and Tobago. PEN 60/70 leads a range delivered to Point Lisas in 16 days.
Pro-Road makes PEN 60/70, PEN 85/100 and PEN 120/150 asphalt cement in its own plants, shipped in big bags. Weekly sailings deliver to Point Lisas year-round.
Every grade ships with its technical datasheet. Below you will find the grade table, delivery details for Point Lisas, and how to melt bitumen once it lands.
Product range
Which penetration grades does Pro-Road supply to Trinidad and Tobago?
PEN 60/70 is the most requested grade for hot-mix paving. PEN 85/100 and PEN 120/150 round out the range for cooler or lighter-traffic work. Grade codes that link through open that grade’s datasheet.
| Grade | Type | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| PEN 60/70 | Penetration-grade bitumen, medium | Highways, urban roads and general paving |
| PEN 85/100 | Penetration-grade bitumen, soft | Surface courses and chip seal on medium-traffic roads |
| PEN 120/150 | Penetration-grade bitumen, softest | Cold and high-altitude regions, thermal-crack resistant surfaces |
PEN 60/70, 85/100 and 120/150 differ mainly in penetration and softening point. All three share the same flash point, ductility and viscosity floor.
| Property | Test method | PEN 60/70 | PEN 85/100 | PEN 120/150 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Penetration at 25°C (0.1 mm) | BS EN 1426 / AASHTO T 49 | 60-70 | 85-100 | 120-150 |
| Softening point (°C) | BS EN 1427 / AASHTO T 53 | 46-54 | 43-51 | 35-45 |
| Flash point (°C) | BS EN ISO 2592 / AASHTO T 48 | Minimum 230 | Minimum 230 | Minimum 230 |
| Ductility at 25°C (cm) | BS EN 13589 / AASHTO T 51 | Minimum 100 | Minimum 100 | Minimum 100 |
| Kinematic viscosity at 135°C (mm²/s) | BS EN 12595 / AASHTO T 201 | 350-450 | 350-450 | 350-450 |
Full test methods for every property are on the datasheet for each grade, and on our datasheets page. For cold-applied surface work, Pro-Road also supplies bitumen emulsions for Trinidad and Tobago.
Delivery
How does delivery of bitumen to Trinidad and Tobago work?
Delivery works by weekly container sailings to Point Lisas. Sea transit takes 16 days.
Your quote confirms the sailing schedule and door-to-site timing for your order.
Penetration-grade bitumen and asphalt cement ship in big bags of 1000 to 1300 kg, or in drums. The minimum order is 24 MT, one full 40-foot container.
Melting
How do you melt bitumen from big bags?
You melt bitumen by heating the whole bag in a melting unit. Bags are charged whole, so nobody cuts, breaks or shovels solid binder out first.
- Big bags weigh 1000 to 1300 kg and are lifted by their four lifting loops.
- A forklift, telehandler or crane with a spreader handles the load.
- Bags are lifted level, one at a time.
- No special decanting equipment is needed to move a bag from the container to the melter.
Heat is applied indirectly, so the binder at the tank wall does not scorch. Local overheating is what damages a binder, and controlled, even heating is what avoids it. The melted binder is then drawn off to the distributor truck or the asphalt plant.
Pro-Road’s ASMELT bitumen melter and decanter has its own crane to lift and feed each big bag. A receiving platform takes the load inside the unit. Hot oil coils or diesel burners heat it, with a gauge to track the temperature. The big-bag format loads straight into a melting unit you already run.
Applications
Which penetration grade suits Trinidad and Tobago’s climate?
Hotter climates and heavy traffic call for a harder grade, such as PEN 60/70. Cooler spells and lighter loads suit a softer grade, such as PEN 85/100. Your quote confirms the grade against your project specification.
The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure runs road maintenance through its PURE unit, the Programme for Upgrading Roads Efficiency. Hot-mix resurfacing on principal roads uses penetration-grade bitumen as the binder. Big bags are stored on level, drained ground, kept off the surface on pallets or dunnage. They are covered against prolonged sun and rain. Solid bitumen does not separate the way an emulsion does; the bag fabric is what needs protecting.

FAQ
What do buyers ask most about bitumen supply to Trinidad and Tobago?
Buyers most often ask about big-bag handling, melting, minimum order size and grade choice.
How are big bags lifted and handled on site?
Big bags weigh 1000 to 1300 kg and are lifted by their four lifting loops. A forklift, telehandler or crane with a spreader handles the load. Bags are lifted level, one at a time.
Can big bags be stored outdoors, and for how long?
Yes. Big bags are stored on level, drained ground, kept off the surface, and covered against prolonged sun and rain. Solid bitumen does not separate the way an emulsion does.
How do we melt the bitumen?
You melt bitumen by heating the whole bag in a melting unit, with heat applied indirectly. Nobody cuts, breaks or shovels the bag first.
What is the minimum order quantity for bitumen?
The minimum order is 24 MT, one full 40-foot container.
How do I choose between PEN 60/70, PEN 85/100 and PEN 120/150?
Choose PEN 60/70 for hot-mix paving in a tropical climate under heavy traffic. PEN 85/100 and PEN 120/150 suit cooler or lighter-traffic parts of a mix. Your quote confirms the grade against your specification.
What documentation ships with the container?
Each container ships with the technical datasheet for the grade supplied. It also carries the commercial invoice, the packing list and the bill of lading, with datasheets on our datasheets page.
Can municipalities order cold mix from Pro-Road?
Yes, Pro-Road supplies cold mix in container volumes, for contractors and municipal road crews. Ask for cold mix alongside your bitumen or asphalt cement order.
How long does bitumen delivery to Trinidad and Tobago take?
Sea transit takes 16 days to Point Lisas, with weekly sailings. Your quote confirms the exact schedule and door-to-site timing.
Can we appoint our own inspector for a bitumen shipment?
