Bitumen Emulsion Supplier in the Eastern Caribbean: Grades, Specs and Delivery

Pro-Road Global supplies cationic bitumen emulsions across the Eastern Caribbean. CRS and CSS grades reach five island ports, from Grenada to Martinique.

Pro-Road manufactures CRS-1, CRS-2, CSS-1 and CSS-1h emulsions, polymer-modified grades, and the PRIM-18, PRIS-74, PRP-98 and PRSS-94 product lines. Regular sailings serve St. George’s, Vieux Fort, Roseau, Philipsburg and Fort-de-France. Every grade ships from our own Colombian plants with its technical datasheet. Below you will find the grade table and the delivery schedule for each Eastern Caribbean port. You will also find the documentation island projects ask for.

Product range

Which emulsion grades are available in the Eastern Caribbean?

The grades available are conventional CRS and CSS types, polymer-modified versions, and Pro-Road’s own sealant lines. Each product is described in full on our bitumen emulsions page. Setting speed decides the use. Rapid grades break on contact and suit spray work. Slow grades stay workable for mixing.

GradeLineTypical use
CRS-1Conventional cationic, rapid settingChip seal and tack coat
CRS-2Conventional cationic, rapid settingChip seal where higher viscosity is needed
CSS-1Conventional cationic, slow settingSlurry seal, fog seal, and priming
CSS-1hConventional cationic, slow settingTack coat and slurry with hard base asphalt
CQS-1hConventional cationic, quick settingSlurry seal where traffic must return quickly
CRS-1m, CRS-2m, CSS-1hmPolymer-modified cationicHeavy traffic and demanding wearing courses
PRIM-18Modified liquid sealantChip seal (TSD) wearing surfaces
PRIS-74Conventional liquid sealantChip seal (TSD) wearing surfaces
PRP-98PrimerAdhesion coat before the first chip seal layer
PRSS-94Slow-setting slurry emulsionSlurry seal, supplied with mix design support

Delivery

How does delivery to the Eastern Caribbean work?

Where we deliver

Grenada

Grenada’s Roads Unit sits inside the national infrastructure ministry (MOID). It runs two divisions, Western Roads and Eastern Roads, that plan and manage the island’s road network. The Western Road Corridor Upgrade is rebuilding the west-coast route from St. George’s to Victoria, St. Mark. The Caribbean Development Bank funds the work. Pro-Road ships CRS and CSS grades to St. George’s for chip seal, tack coat and slurry work on projects.

Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia’s Ministry of Infrastructure, Ports, Transport, Physical Development and Urban Renewal manages road construction and rehabilitation procurement. The Millennium Highway and West Coast Road Rehabilitation Project is rebuilding 40 kilometres of primary road between Castries and Soufriere. The UK Caribbean Infrastructure Partnership Fund and the Caribbean Development Bank fund the work jointly. Pro-Road delivers to Vieux Fort for contractors working this corridor and other island paving.

Dominica

Dominica’s Ministry of Public Works, Public Utilities and Digital Economy manages the road network under the National Roads Policy. The Loubiere to Bagatelle Road Rehabilitation project is rebuilding 11 kilometres of road, drainage and bridge works. The Caribbean Development Bank and the UK Caribbean Infrastructure Partnership Fund finance the project. The Climate Resilience Execution Agency for Dominica implements it. Pro-Road delivers emulsions to Roseau for this kind of resurfacing and maintenance work.

Sint Maarten

Sint Maarten’s Ministry of VROMI owns road works, including ring-road rehabilitation and drainage upgrades. A separate utility-infrastructure agreement with UNOPS covers work on Cole Bay, South Reward, Pointe Blanche and A.T. Illidge Road. Pro-Road ships CRS and CSS grades to Philipsburg for contractors supporting these programmes.

Martinique

Martinique is an overseas French region. Road infrastructure there is a competency of the Collectivité Territoriale de Martinique. Pro-Road ships CRS and CSS emulsion grades to Fort-de-France for contractors who need cold-applied chip seal and tack coat. Slurry products are available too, alongside asphalt cement supply.

Applications

Which emulsion grades fit Eastern Caribbean road work?

The best fits are CRS grades for chip seal and tack coats, and CSS grades for slurry work. Polymer-modified grades cover heavy-traffic corridors and repeat resurfacing cycles.

The region runs a dry season from January to early May. A wetter season follows, from May or June through November or December. Hurricane season overlaps the wet months. Dominica, Martinique and Saint Lucia see the heaviest rainfall of the five territories. Emulsions apply cold, which suits maintenance work through the wet season without a hot-mix plant on site.

Emulsion prime applied ahead of a chip seal wearing course.

Resurfacing overlays need a tack coat between layers. CRS-1 or CSS-1h covers that step. Surface treatments and slurry seals extend road life between repaves. PRIM-18 and PRSS-94 are made for that work. Our chip seal guide explains the full double surface treatment method.
