Chile’s Manual de Carreteras, published by the MOP’s Dirección de Vialidad, splits grade choice by climate zone:
- Hot zones, including the Atacama Desert in the north, specify CSS-1h for fog seal work.
- Cold zones, wetter toward the south, specify CSS-1 for fog seal work.
MOP has presented a 2025-2026 portfolio of 15 potential projects for tender through public-private concessions, worth USD 7,898 million. The ministry has also launched Plan Ruta Austral for the Carretera Austral. The programme invests more than CLP 800,000 million between 2026 and 2030.
